In veterinary medicine, our patients are not able to tell us what ails them, so preventing health problems before they start is the secret to a happy, healthy pet. The veterinarians and medical team at West Suburban Veterinary Associates, provide preventive care through regular (yearly) wellness exams for your dog and cat. We believe that the owner is the best advocate for his/her pet, and we enjoy enhancing the human animal bond through client education.
During an examination, we perform a comprehensive evaluation of your pet. We also perform routine laboratory tests – a blood test for heartworm and a fecal test for intestinal parasites. Each should be performed yearly. We want to learn about your pet’s lifestyle, diet and behavior. Through the examination and conversations with the owner, we can develop a thorough picture of your pet’s health which, in turn, aids us in future medical treatments.
Puppy and Kitten Care
We love getting kittens and puppies off to the best possible start in life. Pets that start healthy have a better chance of staying healthy, and we create a plan for wellness that works for you and the new member of the family. Although every pet is different, there are some basic wellness standards we recommend for every puppy or kitten. Read More >>
Senior Pet Care
As your pet ages, his or her health care needs change. Senior pets make wonderful companions, but they require veterinary care much different from puppies and kittens or adult pets. A pet is considered a senior between the ages of seven and eight. At West Suburban Veterinary Associates, we develop a Senior Wellness Program that is specific to your pet. We address the unique needs of the senior pet taking into account lifestyle, medical needs as well as dietary needs. We encourage senior pets to come in for exams at least twice a year. If you notice any changes in your senior pet’s health or behavior, please contact us right away.
Vaccinations are an important part of your pet’s preventive health care plan. Your pet is unique, and the veterinarians at West Suburban Veterinary Associates develop individual vaccine protocols for every pet. We recommend and encourage yearly vaccines for feline and canine patients. Along with providing vaccinations against many contagious diseases, the exam allows us the opportunity to see your pet each year to discover other possible health issues.
