Alan W. Main, DVM

Dr. Alan W. Main Practice owner Dr. Alan Main has cared for pets at West Suburban Veterinary Associates since 1987. He grew up in the Chicago suburbs and practiced medicine at Boone Animal Hospital and Arboretum View Animal Hospital, both in Illinois.

He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Zoology from the Miami University of Ohio in 1977. Dr. Main went on to complete his veterinary education at the Ohio State University and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1981.

Dr. Main remains on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine through extensive continuing education. He holds continuing education certificates in ultrasound, laser surgery, laparoscopic surgery and liver diseases. Surgery, ultrasound and internal medicine are among his many professional interests.

Active in many professional organizations, Dr. Main is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association and the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association. He is also the author of the West Suburban Humane Society Newsletter's veterinary care articles.

When he's not busy with his duties at the hospital, Dr. Main can be found playing tennis and golf, hiking and writing. He and his wife, Janet, share their home with two rescue dogs, Rocky and Cowboy and a cat, Derby.
